I've skipped PLA a few times when I've expected issues. You're absolutely right, though. Printing is SO dependent on the filament! I would add that it's also SO dependent on the shape of your part. As noted earlier in this thread, vertical slenderness is your enemy with 3D printing! Do you have an enclosed printer, yet, Mike? If not, that might be a big factor.
